Hello Illinois!

4 Mar 2020

We specialize in data analysis with the help of data visualization -- more so in the domain of healthcare. The principal of Missing Link is a first generation immigrant based in the Chicago Illinois area. Hence we decided to start close home to try and understand healthcare, specially public coverage, in Illinois itself.

The first stop – data from the Census website, American FactFinder. We downloaded public coverage estimates for 2018.

The first instinct is to put the data on the geographical map.

However, in our experience we have found that Treemaps are far more effective in comparing data sizes. They give a view that is not feasible on a geographical map.

Of course, plotting data on a geographical map has its advantages too. These two images alone are giving us so much information! In the next few weeks we will share with you what we discovered about Illinois via these two images.

And yes, we will also share what the colors and sizes in the visualizations indicate. Without that a data visualization has no meaning.
